Adolescent Book "But You Don’t Look Sick!"
By Anne E. Reckling, PsyD
A non-fiction book written for teenagers with mitochondrial disease. The book will contain the words of the teenagers and young adults LIVING with mitochondrial disease. It will include how the teens feel, what is helpful, what is not helpful in coping, what inspires them, what they have learned, things they wish people had told them, information or ideas that they’d like to tell others. It is intended to reduce feelings of isolation, support hope, reduce the sense of stigma, increase awareness of mitochondrial disease, identify some of the needs and coping mechanisms of teens with "mito", and provide a starting place from which teenagers can express themselves.
