Greetings MitoAction Friends!
On sunny days as the ground thaws and the flowers bloom, many people feel gloriously alive during the Spring.  That feeling of being alive is so important to anyone who is affected by mitochondrial disease.  That is why MitoAction exists - to help you LIVE with Mito.  We are patients, parents, volunteers, clinicians, family members, and friends who want to make positive changes today that will improve the quality of life for anyone who is living with this disease.

Join us - embrace the challenge and share your voice!  We welcome
you!

Monthly Mito Lesson: What are Mitochondria?

 Mitochondrial cell
  • Mitochondria are tiny organelles found in almost every cell in the body.
  • They are known as the "powerhouse of the cell."
  • They are responsible for creating more than 90% of cellular energy.
  • They are necessary in the body to sustain life and support growth.
  • They are composed of tiny packages of enzymes that turn nutrients into cellular energy
  • Mitochondrial failure causes cell injury that leads to cell death.   When multiple organ cells die there is organ failure.
