NEEDING MORE CALORIES

I have been thin for quite some time now (1 1/2 years now), but at a stable weight, although I could use another 5 pounds or so to be a bit healthier.  Now I have lost 2 more pounds, which is a lot for me.  I am short and small framed, so 2 pounds makes a difference. I think it is probably due to excessive stress and decreased appetite because of the stress.  I am looking for a caloric supplement without too many carbohydrates.  I have to watch the carb intake because of diabetes.  I do not like supplements with hydrogenated fats and arificial ingredients (I eat mostly organics, so stay away from that stuff).  I would appreciate any suggestions.  Thank you in advance.  Beth

Beth, I don't know anything

Beth, I don't know anything about caloric supplements. I asked my fiance what's the best thing to give me calories when I don't want to eat. His response? Butter! He actually has a point. I can digest fats better than anything else, and when I need to eat but don't want to, butter, cheese, cream (whipped at home or not) are all helpful. Of course the lactose doesn't really help the bloodsugar. Also, I don't know how available organic milk products are in other parts of the country. Do you take Alpha Lipoic Acid? I saw it listed as a possible component of the mito coctail, but as I read about it I saw that it is used in patients with diabetes. I'm not sure if it is helpful for both kinds of diabetes or just type 2.

Hey Beth, My son had a wieght issue for along time. Our Nutionalist said to try butter, sour cream, ect. It wasn't enough for him, he wasn't eating much. So they tried a medical food called Bene-calorie it is a a liquid you can put into your food. It would need to be perscribed by a doctor though.

Thank you for your help

Thank you for your help ladies. To Anthony's mom, does insurance typically cover Bene-calorie? I did look at it and it may be an option. I saw that you can buy it on the internet from Walgreen's. Beth
