Has anynone had a neuro psychological evaluation done for their child? If so, for what reason? Did you find it beneficial or useless? Was it really long?
Hi,
Both my children have had multiple neuro psychological evaluations throughout thier academic careers. It can be a lengthy testing proposition, but often times the neuropsychologist can break the testing into 2 days. The average testing time total is approximately 6-8 hours normally, but it can be broken down into smaller testing periods for fatigue issues. We found it incredibly useful in obtaining the proper accommodations and modifications needed for our children's IEP and 504, as the testing results helped us identify where our childrens strengths and weaknesses were. It also helped us establish a baseline for changes that we might not have seen both emotionally, and educationally.
Hope this helps, Kayjay

Both my kids have had full neuropsych evals - both around age of 5 years old. Recent eval for younger child took about 3-4 hours total, but a previous eval was 4 hours each day (in 2 days). Each child test differntly at differnet speeds - the latter child was easily distractible thus "longer session."
The information is helpful in education and learning more baout childs stregths as kayjay mentioned but I also got confirmation of any lack of neurology involvement. She has other signs of a disease process, but no neurology signs; which seems odd but her neuropsych eval confirmed this AND why she's bored in Kindergarten. ;-)
Truly one of the most useful pieces of information about "inner" child. Kelly
