For people who don't care for Yahoo! nor Facebook there is a new option for support and discussion for adults with mitochondrial disease:

http://groups.google.com/group/mito-adults

The Yahoo! Groups for mitochondrial disease have been established the longest. The Mito Adults group on Facebook is newer and has been fairly active, it is convenient if you already use Facebook. This Google group is not meant to replace those groups, but to be an addition. (Feel free to join as many or as few groups as you like.)

To join, click on the link above, then request membership. You will be asked why you want to join. A short reply is all that is needed, you don't need to submit a full diagnosis! Once your membership is accepted, you are encouraged post a more detailed welcome message.

This group was started in November 2009, so by joining now you can become a founding member. The discussion is private (does not appear in search engines like with this open forum) but the archives are open to and searchable by group members. New members are able to catch up on past discussions and resources others have shared on the web site. The Google interface is fairly simple -- no need to wait for animated advertising to download before viewing site content either. You may participate by email or on the web site itself.

You do need to register for an account with Google to join, but if you already use Gmail (Google Mail) or other Google products, your account is already set up.
