Our granddaughter's mito doctor put our adolescent granddaughter on Co-Q-10 a few months ago and it seems to have made a big difference in her energy level and ability to concentrate.   She was taking the Walmart variety of Co-Q-10 but a couple of months back we switched her to Ubiquinol which is much more expensive and we are wondering if there's any research or other peoples's opinions about what kind or what brand of Co-Q-10 we should be using.   I'm also seeing some info on Q-Gel.   Does anyone have any strong opinion about what is best?

Hi Mito Grandma, CO-Q10, varies in both quality and cost. as you can see from your research prices vary. The best indicator is clinical. Does the brand your using afford the same results. Q-gel which is supposed to be superior in it's bioavailibilty is certainly more expensive, and come in a variety of forms. and dosages. you can see what would be the best value for your situation. ie: total dose You could email Raj Chopra and pose the same question ( he is the owner of Tishcon, the maker of Q-gel. there is an email address for him on the Tishcon homepage, Q-gel is distributed by epic4health.com, you may call or email them and as long as you mention it is for a Mito patient, you will be given a discount. I would really email Raj, and question him on the difference between Q-gel, and other forms of Q-10. I can tell you that a lot of research has been done by Tishcon, and that they alone hold a orphan drug status from the FDA, which means Q-gel is exactly the same as the Co-q that is found in your body. I don't believe anyone knows for sure which is superior. there are other forms of Co-q on the horizon. Lastly speaking only from personal experience, I can tell you that I use Qgel and have for years. I find that it seems to work better than other forms. I supplement it with my Vitamin Cocktail as I don't find that the Cocktail version works as well. Also, if your Granddaughter is on the vitamin cocktail, the co_q in it though not Q-gel is sometimes covered by Insurance. I speak only for myself, and no others. Sometimes all you can do is try different versions of Co-q, but always go with a trusted name in supplements. Good Luck, And God Bless. Lori :-),with the help of my husband(Mark) :)
