The Sandra K Russell Derby Day Benefit for Mito is more than just a party – it’s a long-standing tradition and a chance for you to help MitoAction send kids to summer camp and college! With this year’s event being virtual, you also now have the opportunity to host your own SKR Derby Day Party! Need some inspiration? We’re here to help!
The First Step
Purchase your tickets or your VIP event box and invite your friends and family to join you!
Safe and socially distanced, of course in your living room or even backyard! Make sure you have some hand sanitizer nearby and wear your masks!
Ladies – get those hats and fascinators ready and Gentlemen – straighten your bow ties. Both are not only traditional Kentucky Derby attire, but are considered good luck. Need some ideas, check out the photo gallery from the 2019 SKR Derby Day!
Be sure to stop by the virtual photo booth to enter the Hat & Bowtie contest! Attendees will have a chance to vote on who wears it best!
Your Derby party won’t be complete without some traditional Southern Fare! Some world famous chefs who cook for the Taste of Derby event have compiled some of their favorite recipes…check them out here.
The mint julep is the official drink of the Kentucky Derby! Start off your Derby Day party by joining our live demo on how to make one. Make sure you grab a bottle of Four Roses bourbon (or whatever is your favorite) and some mint leaves on hand. If mint juleps aren’t your favorite, you could try an Oaks Lily, the official drink of the Derby’s sister race, the Longines Kentucky Oaks.
Visit the betting tables in the paddock area during the event to learn more about each horse and jockey. Pick the horse you think will Win, Place, or Show! If your horse makes the cut, you will be entered into a raffle to win cash prizes.
Visit the infield area during the live event to enter the hat and bow contest and to participate in the scavenger hunt! Place your bet on the winning horse to have a chance to win cash prizes. Bid on amazing items during the live auction. Most importantly, join in the waterfall auction where you can send kids with mitochondrial disease to summer camp or grant a wish for the entire family!
