FLORENCE S.C. (WPDE) — Aneesa Licorish said the past year has been hard for her two-year-old son, Jeremiah Gracen, but she is encouraged that he’s showing signs of improvement.
Jeremiah was diagnosed when he was younger than one year old with a condition called thymidine kinase 2 (TK2) related mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome.
The disease causes muscle weakness and a myriad of problems, including issues with breathing, loss of motor skills, swallowing, mental development and chewing.
